Post by Gromatici »

Anyone have a good plan and contact information to forward to me for health insurance? I have to buy my own and for my family.

Thanks,

Only you can decide what best fits your situation, but we've been Kaiser members for about 10 years now, and are pretty happy with it. As with all good health coverage, it's not cheap, but they do a good job of preventive care, and have handled all of our routine health care needs well. (I don't have any experience with a major medical problem, so can't comment on Kaiser's handling of those.)

Be prepared to open your wallet wide, though. Coverage for the 3 of us (wife 55, son 13, me 58) with modest co-pays ($25 for most stuff) is currently costing us a hair on the far side of $17k per year. It's definitely an ouchy proposition.

We too have been with Kaiser for over 10 years and have no complaints. They have just built 2 new hospitals in OC - state of the art.

I had my wife looking into it and it's been a labyrinth of information.

Health insurance

I would generally echo the other posters comments on Kaiser. It's decent coverage and they do good job in the preventative care department. They have a fair amount of options. I don't have the Co pay, so I pay a lot less in premiums. I have the deductible plans. But if I have to go to the doctor for anything outside of a routine visit, then I pay through the nose. Last year my son had to have stitches on his lower leg and that cost us like $400 out of pocket. Ouch! I still think Kaiser raises their premiums way too much every year--well above the inflation rate. I hope someday that stops.

I have the same plan as Mike this year because of the increasing costs by Kaiser. It's basically a plan for catastrophic illness. This year I had to offset the annual rise in premiums.

Please post your results from your wife’s research when you complete your decision. I'm sure all of us would appreciate to know what you decide and the reasons.

Thanks,
Larry
