"Like" & "Dislike"

Can we get "Like" and "Dislike" buttons on each post?

It would be nice to express that you like what someone has to say, and the converse on occasion too.

It is the post reply button. The problem is that you have to use an analog method to keep track of the likes and dislikes. lol

I second your request. There are probably lots of folks that would use it and possibly it would allow one to follow a thread of interest without having to actually postng a comment.

I'd be happy enough if the site was correctly configured. Someone probably has to be hired, though, otherwise it would have been fixed years ago.

This vBulletin is from 2006, and should be updated anyway. In 2010 a "serious security flaw" was found in a later version:

The CLSA Central Office maintains the website and was not aware of an issue with the manner in which quotes were being called out on the discussion board. We have now resolved this issue and the quotes are being called out properly.

In regard to the security issue with Vbulletin, this was in reference to spam accounts being created. We have resolved that issue by moderating all new users.

In regard to a like or dislike button, this is a feature used in social media and not generally used on a professional discussion boards.

Do you ever read someone's post that you know and hear their voice in your head?

Maybe I did not get enough sleep last night.

A Like and Dislike button would provide immediate feedback on a post if it echoes a chord with the readers, and conversly if they are straying from the strictly professional style of posting.

The Administrator Poo-poo'd my suggestion, but did not say it was technically impossible.

I still think having Like and Dislike buttons gives immediate feedback without having to compose an opus.

Let's request the option to "Like" and "Dislike" by popular acclaim!

A like/dislike button is not an option with our current system. If we change software there will be additional cost to CLSA and the potential that we will lose existing discussion and user accounts.

Yep, just tried it. 10 characters minimum or you get a warning to add more.

The number of characters in a post is something we can change within the current software. We were able to modify it to a minimum of 3 characters. Hope this helps!

Ok then. How about "I agree with Woodcutter"

Or even shorter: "+1 Post 16" (10 characters including spaces).

Or to keep it sounding more professional and less adolescent/facespacish: "Well said Mr. Cutter."

Or for dislike, and using language fitting for a professional forum you could type something like "Your last post is devoid of all sound reason Mr. Page." Granted, it's a bit more work than clicking on a "dislike" button on a post, but I often put a lot of thought into my responses, so I believe that effort desrves at least the effort to compose a well worded professional sounding insult rather than a thumby down thingy produced by one lazy click on a mouse.

Is this what we are spending our time on now?

How about we fight the good fight and find some moderators that have actually logged into the forum in the past year. The only user account that has been used since December 2014 is the Admin account.

I am hoping with the new software that was just announced comes with some valuable reliability with the forum as well as has some great new features that would be useful to the professional development of the practice and is not just a new shiny piece of worthless chrome that we all stare at and say how pretty it looks.

I wonder how much this cost CLSA to do as well???

Thank you for participating in my humble thread about improving participation in a small way by adding a Like and Dislike button Bryan.

I am not sure who you are referring to by Moderators. Sometimes posts end up in the agenda for the Board of Directors meetings, however this forum is not actively moderated as far as I know.

Perhaps you are suggesting that we need better moderation, in which case I would say that idea deserves a thread of its own.
