Gin

Post by Dave Karoly, PLS »

This is probably against some rule somewhere, but here goes...

I like Tanqueray. I used to like Bombay regular but I've changed my mind; I think Tanqueray is better, more juniper flavor.

I do about 6:1 Tanqueray to Noily Pratt dry French Vermouth in a chilled mixing glass. I stir it (never shake it). 4 or 5 olives. Strain into a chilled martini glass.

I also like Irish Whiskey.
Heated glass. two teaspoons brown sugar. 1.5 oz Jameson or Bushmills (Jameson is a little better for this purpose, Bushmills is a little smoother for sipping). The rest is strong coffee. Stir. Float some halfway whipped heavy cream on top.

Or you can just pour some in a glass and sip it.

Keep the gin and the Irish Coffee.

Bushmill or Black Bush over ice is quite good.

Ice? For G-d's sake, Stephen! They already make it with water, you know!

Take it neat and spare the extra water.

I never drink really good liquor.

It makes my mouth water and dilutes it.

After brushing my way through untold miles of Juniper bushes in the outbacks of Utah in the 60s, just looking at a gin bottle makes my throat gag. Never could stand the smell after that. (Guess that's why I favor vodka now?)

I have to speak up for my Brandy. Usually El Presidente over ice, soda water or just water, and a half of a key lime off the tree out back. (Swore off whiskey years ago.)
