Universal Total Station Compass?

I would think using a compass attached to a Total Station could be problematic due to the electrons flying around. I would think the purpose built ones you mention are designed to counter this (what we call "deviation" in Aviation).

I usually stand back with my Silva Ranger (hand held) to get a provisional bearing on the first traverse leg (if I need it) or use my staff compass. The staff compass is a lot more sensitive than the Silva, a car 40' away will pull the needle 1°.
