Health insurers are privately warning brokers that premiums for many individuals and small businesses could increase sharply next year because of the health-care overhaul law, with the nation's biggest firm projecting that rates could more than double for some consumers buying their own plans.
The projections, made in sessions with brokers and agents, provide some of the most concrete evidence yet of how much insurance companies might increase prices when major provisions of the law kick in next year—a subject of rigorous debate.

Defund govt
To fully fund govt first the national debt would have to be paid. The US Govt is $18 TRILLION in debt, using 350 million people in the USA it would require $51,000 from every man, woman and child to pay it off. And that's just the Federal debt. Did you write your check yet?

Starts off with a Goldman-Sachs ad - what does that tell you?
I am not sure how he can say a CAT scan costs the hosp nothing. Price a new robotic lately.
Lawyers are a big cost of health care. If someone dies and you manage to actually get the hosp into court the plaintiffs lawyer is going to ask if a laundry list of tests were done. All these tests cost money.
He only tracked 8 bills.
He did say that there is nothing in Obombacare to control costs, a fact denied by many, and there isn't. Obomba care was written by lobbyists and the head of the AFL-CIO, they did not write the bill to screw themselves. The medical prosthesis people did not lobby and got screwed.
The EPA (Employment Prevention Agency) chased the pharmacital mfgrs to India where the neighboring rivers are so polluted with drug waste if you drink the water you will never get sick. By moving there they probably increased their profit margins 100 fold or more. So again the govt has chased a industry out of the USA increasing their profits and adding hundreds to our unemployment ranks.
As for a monopoly, DuPont held the patent on R-12 refrigerant and that patent was nearing expiration which would allow anyone to make it. So, the people at DuPont went to our idiots in DC and said "R-12 is bad for the environment". The govt said "My gosh, what will we do?" Dupont replies "No worries mate, we have R-134 environmentally safe" according to DuPont. That's how this Country is run. Look what Feinstein did for Perini and URS corps.
As for other so called non-monopolies Gas prices, cable cos, DISH vs Direct TV all within pennies of each other. I need new drum and toner for my copier Office Depot and Staples - same price to the penny.

I think there should be a public option, at least.
I was politically conservative most of my life until 2008 until I realized conservatism means "everything for billionaires." Now I am a practical pragmatist. Do whatever works best for the most people, screw idealogy, it doesn't work.
Part of the problem according to an Insurance Company acquaintance is no one wants to give up anything. Everytime some new wiz bang treatment comes out for something the public expects the insurance company to provide it.

I will give people the benefit of the doubt and figure that what they want is a square deal. They do not expect to get something for nothing. They do not want to pay and pay and pay and pay and then be told that they have no insurance because they did not dot the i's and cross the t's properly. It is one thing to have your healthcare rationed BECAUSE that is all the PUBLIC plan provides as opposed to having healthcare rationed because a 31% profit margin is acceptabler but a 28% profit margin is not.

As we near it's implementation the true costs start appearing. Actuaries predicting 32% health care increase for private individuals. To quote the wicked witch of the north "We have to pass this bill to see what's in it." She was right.

Just adding fuel to the fire;
NEW ORLEANS -- The head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency says people who buy federal flood insurance need to plan for big rate hikes. FEMA director Craig Fugate says some people now paying hundreds of dollars a year could wind up paying thousands because Congress says the program must at least pay for itself.
He said Tuesday that the increases will be phased in over three to four years.
