Need input

Good morning,

I am asking for opinions from my fellow Land Surveyors about the viability of an idea that I had.

I am thinking about offering my services for Peer Review of various types of survey documents. As such, my questions are:

1 - Would you use such a service if available?
2 - If so, what would you think to be a fair fee for said service?
3 - If not, why not? (Not looking to be combative, trying to gather information).

As to my qualfications, I am Licensed (PLS 7845, 2002), and spent 5 years reviewing documents for a Southern California County Surveyor's office,
in both a line checker, and supervisory capacties. I have also spent time in the private sector, producing numerous documents from simple Easement
descriptions and exhibits to large Subdivision maps, and most everything in between.

I don't think it's a bad idea.

Personally, I wouldn't use the service because I'm married to a licensed surveyor :>).

In all seriousness, I would go to someone that I know or have report with. Are you envisioning this service as being a second set of eyes kind of review?

This is exactly what I was thinking of. I know that I can look at the same mistake for days and not see it, so another set of eyes is always welcome.

I see your point of using someone you are already familiar with, but there may or may not be some benefit to using someone not familiar, for a different take on the issue.

I offer this service and have for a long time. I call it "Peer to Peer Consultation." Because of my extensive experience in and before the courts, there are occasions when judges, mediators, and arbitrators will advise contestants to contact me. The American court system favors alternate dispute resolution. Good luck!
