Engineering Assistant Trainee (Hourly)

The City of Modesto Community and Economic Development Department has a temporary position available in the Transportation Engineering and Design Division to assist with a pavement inspection project. This assignment is expected to last approximately six (6) months. Working with a team of two to three people, the incumbent will be required to walk approximately 200 miles of streets within the City of Modesto, analyzing the condition of the existing pavement, measuring various pavement distress types and entering the data into a hand-held data collector. Extensive walking, up to 10 miles per day, is required. Pavement analysis training will be provided.

This is an hourly position, limited to working approximately 19 hours per week or 1,000 hours in a fiscal year, whichever comes first. Positions are non-benefited and have been designated as a non-classified, at-will position.

Experience:

No experience is necessary. Previous experience related to field or office engineering is desired.

Training:

Equivalent to an Associate’s degree from an accredited college with major course work in civil engineering or a related field.

License or Certificate:

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.
