Leica I-Rover

Does anyone know how to "localize" with the new Leica I-Rover ?

The set-up is a random base station and rover.
I have calculated search points from recorded maps.

The entity I'm working with has always done a (two step) method of collecting random points, bringing them into the office then adding search points based upon some bogus state plane coordinate system.

Perhaps this is the only way Leica operates ?

P.S. the tech support at Leica knows absolutely nothing of what I speak of.

Because I cant get Trimble, or a trimble salesman OR Pacific Crest, to sell me some better longer range radios, A buddy of Mine is bringing his Leica gear so we can go out long range to shoot control.

I've been looking for a better radio system for over a year. Pacific Crest just plain WONT respond to calls or emails.

Trimble NOW wants an account set up before they even speak with me.

I know the FCC changed regulations so I dont want to buy something illegal

currently using the olde tyme trimtalks 900mhz. good for about a kilometer.

Have you tried Intuicom? They make an RTK bridge product that can work with or without a external radio. It'll run as a base/rover system or as a network receiver. We've been using it on the SmartNet in weak cell signal areas. It's a pretty good product. Since we mainly work off Leica's Smartnet we use the built-in 900 mhz (legal) radio. I think Intuicom uses Pacific Crest radios in the case where a customer needs one.

I have looked into the Intuicom however, haven't known anyone who has actually used one.

There was an ad showing the intuicom being used with a Leica rover and a Trimble rover.
This would be our exact circumstances

I can only assume that the person who sold you the Leica GPS knows how to perform a simple localization. I don't follow you w.r.t. Leica tech support not knowing how to support their flagship products.

It's called Determine Transformation System, not localization in the Leica world.

You can easily do a "One Step transformation", with one point or many. You need to have a job with the calculated coordinates that you want to use in the controller as well as your field survey file. You match them up and "Walla!"

I am sure whoever sold you or your friend this equipment can explain it while you look at the screen.

It's quick and easy. We do it on most projects, at least to look for points.

I believe my Leica Buddy found a tech who explained it all out for him.
He is set to go.

As for my radio system, I bought a couple of directional (Yagi) antennas.
They pushed my little 900mhz system out to nearly 2 miles from the base. this will cut down on the amount of loose repeaters that will be scattered about when going longer that one kilometer.

Only draw back, is making sure they are pointed in the receiving direction. LOL

I know little about radio technology, but I found Mark Silver's article in the January issue of American Surveyor to be very helpful. He includes a table showing how antenna gain values can boost transmitter power way beyond the allowable Effective Radiated Power rating, which can result in a license violation.
