HELP IDENTIFY THIS PLANT

The photo is of a plant being used as a hedge, in an urban landscape situation. It is over 6 feet high. It has a main trunk of 1 to 2 inches surrounded by many smaller woody shoots.

Could it be one of the varieties of Indian Hawthorne?

I have a Sunset garden book in the garage at home and will look for it later.

not 100% sure but based on a friend's best educated guess the answer is ... Pittosporum tenuifolium.
