Position Name: Assistant Engineer (Surveying)

Salary Range: $5,036 - $7,086 per month

The City of Redding is establishing an eligibility list to fill a current vacancy in the Survey Office of the Engineering Division. Individuals in this classification, under the direction of the City Surveyor, perform various surveying and engineering related work. The primary responsibilities of the current vacancy are survey related.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Research City right of way, easements and property ownership for City projects and City departments; coordinate right-of-way acquisition contract administration; perform surveying and engineering calculations; process easements and summary vacations; check parcel maps, final maps, lot line adjustments, assessment diagrams and legal descriptions; advise the public of survey and map related regulations and codes; review applications for survey related projects; design and coordinate preparation of survey specifications for capital improvement projects; prepare engineering reports and cost estimates for landscape maintenance districts and other assessment districts; coordinate activities with other City departments and outside agencies; and participate as a member of a survey crew as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of: Principles and practices of methods, materials, and techniques used in surveying and civil engineering; construction, state, local regulations and codes regarding land development; and computer aided drafting.

Ability to: Interact effectively with the public and employees. Perform complex surveying/engineering work, make complex surveying/engineering computations; read and accurately interpret maps, plans, specifications and other pertinent data, perform complex computer aided drafting of project plans; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; and perform technical research.
1. Education & Experience: Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying; typical education would include a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent, in Civil Engineering, or related field, such as Surveying, AND typical experience would include two years of progressively responsible, relevant experience using surveying principles.
Desirable Qualifications: Possession of a bachelor's degree in Surveying or Land Surveyor-in-Training Certificate is preferred.
Special Requirements: Possession of the appropriate California driver's license or the ability to obtain one within ten days of appointment.
