JOB TITLE: Surveyor

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Performs a variety of office and field tasks associated with land surveying and engineering. May consult with clients to determine the extent of projects; prepare scopes of work; assists with technical aspects, scheduling, and budgeting for field and office survey work; and conduct survey computations, boundary resolution and data collection.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
• Assists with coordination and planning of daily survey activities: scheduling survey crews to meet deadlines and assuring that surveys are conducted within budget constraints.
• Assure that field surveys and calculations meet high quality standards
• Research and data acquisition from local agencies regarding new surveying projects
• Prepare scope of work plans, including techniques to be used and proposed budgets and schedules
• Prepare survey maps
• Prepare legal descriptions and exhibits
• Oversee reduction and preparation of field data by the survey staff
• Develop budgets for construction surveys and assist project surveyor with budgets for other survey projects including, but not limited to, records of surveys, parcel maps, and topographic surveys
• Oversee an orderly and neat filing system to assure that survey plans are delivered to engineering, other staff or clients in a timely manner
• Utilize surveying instruments to collect and store data. Take field notes when appropriate
• Communicate with local office safety officer and assure that field and office crews are compliant with all OSHA and CALOSHA regulations, as well as company policies regarding appropriate clothing and driving company vehicles
• Provide support to the project team in all aspects of production

EDUCATION:
• LSIT preferred; PLS desired
• College-level courses in drafting/civil engineering/ surveying, GIS, math (including trigonometry, geometry, coordinate geometry, and algebra,) or work in allied professions required, with degree preferred
• Knowledge of traffic control and safety procedures
• Knowledge in the care, cleaning, and use of a variety of surveying tools and equipment optional.
• Knowledge of the operation, checking and basic field operation of electronic total stations, data collectors, and automatic levels required

EXPERIENCE:
• Two years experience in Civil 3D preferred; Four years experience with AutoCAD 2007 required
• Familiar with MSOffice and ability to use personal computer
• Three years minimum experience in leading survey crews, including scheduling and budgeting projects
• Minimum of six years experience in principles of performing basic surveys: leveling, and construction staking
• Extensive knowledge of conventional and robotic total stations required
• Extensive knowledge of GPS/RTK system and data processing required

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor field and office surveyors
• Ability to read and interpret project plans and specifications.
• Ability to use survey equipment, data collectors and hand held calculators
• Ability to work well with others (as a team member) and alone.
• Ability to communicate well with other staff to accomplish team goals.
• Ability to communicate well with clients, contractors, and local agency officials
• Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask
• Visual acuity and manual dexterity. Repetitive wrist and hand motions required.
• Ability to sit or stand for long periods.
• Fluent in speaking and writing the English language, with good communication skills.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Indoor and outdoor working environment, working Monday through Friday. Work times vary seasonally, but are generally early morning to early afternoon, 40 hours per week. Occasional overtime may be required to complete projects.
