Some people will never get it
Today I ran c/l around a 1904 subdivision (hillside) that has some major problems with not closing onto itself. Fortunately, the tier of lots I was a part of was the only area (11 lots ) that was unambiguous, no error. Just 50' x 160' lots with parallel sides.
Anyway, I had already decided that due to the tract and lot errors that exist in the remainder of this 1904 block I would re establish the lot record from a certain corner and parallel with a certain centerline, as was the tract intent.
Walking the block frontage looking for pre existing monuments I came across a 3 monument pincushion. I took a picture of it with my cell phone but so far I have not been able to get that snapshot uploaded, so I drafted up a cadd dwg of what it looks like.
Oh yeah.. I would like to mention that if you do a survey that is just BS you will be found out. I have added another LS number to my growing list of BS surveys.
You DONT prorate in lots that do not close.

RE ignoring original monumentation - and they wonder why we don't let them survey.
Defund govt
To fully fund govt first the national debt would have to be paid. The US Govt is $18 TRILLION in debt, using 350 million people in the USA it would require $51,000 from every man, woman and child to pay it off. And that's just the Federal debt. Did you write your check yet?

there is more to this!
I finally get the prelim from the owner. Look at their description and it differs from the assessors. The TC describes Lot XXX except the Easterly 10 feet. The assessors describes the 10 feet as "measured along the NE and SW lines of Lot XXX" , with the skew 15° 48' of the lines it makes a 0.39' difference. I just requested the east adjoiner deed to see if that description of the 10 foot strip agrees with the assessor or the prelim description, I think the assessor description is correct. The deed cut was made prior to 1948.Wow. Overlapping tags. That's insane.
The second problem with this parcel is that there is another 10 foot strip involved that runs along the north line. The TC missed a 10 foot wide sewer easement that runs 150' east and occupies the north 10 feet of the parcel. It's an active line with structures in place, sewer clean outs and SMH's (field located) that proves it's in place.
The title officer was just in denial last night about this 10 foot easement and I think after 5 emails back and forth yesterday the light finally went on.
Another fun one.

Title cos just hate to have someone find an error in their report and have to issue an updated report. Emailing a updated report must take all of 2 min.

Is that yet another nail head (no tag) about a foot left of the cluster? Looks like a couple guys are really proud of their ability to measure better than the guy or guys who came before. Some just see it as their duty to make the existing boundaries conform to the exact values of reported distances that were likely measured with strectched rusty chains decades earlier by moving the existing corners whenever they encounter the work of inferior measurers. I think they must be taught to do that in that one fied survey course they took in their freshman year of their CE degree.

I once did a survey in extreme mountainous terrain wherein I found two tagged monuments for a 1/16 section corner. One was an older L.S. (circa. 1930's & 1940's) known to do great work, even by today's standards. Then an R.C.E came along in the 80's and set his monument 0.1' from the L.S.'s. Sad to say, there are many examples of this in the high desert area of So. Cal.

I don't think so, but I will take a look tomorrow.E_Page wrote:Is that yet another nail head (no tag) about a foot left of the cluster?
After some more field work I am pretty sure that the old lead with the nail in it would be the one closest to an original corner. The lead/tag that is covered IS an original corner for a Record PM that was done by CW Cook. However, Cook's monument was the second original that was placed. That old lead/nail has two partners down the block. The first lead/nail south agrees with the deed line distance of 114.77’ by 0.02’ ( 114.75’ measured) between the two lead/nails. This is the same deed line that is the south line of Cook’s PM. Cook’s tag measures exactly what his record map says from the street sideline intersection. Apparently Cooks crew did not like that they were missing that lead/nail by 0.14’, so they pin cushioned.
The second partner lead/nail, the one I found on my lot line produced has a 0.14’ difference (short) from record, but holding that lead/nail agrees with the very old poured concrete wall that marks my southerly lot line. The wall is exactly on record line and at record distance southerly of the old lead/nail I am holding for my NW corner offset.
Not every monument is an iron pipe or lead and tag. Take the old occupation into account, that stuff has a story to tell.
