CLSA UNREST
CLSA UNREST
Can anyone give a brief overview of the unrest that is taking place in the organization? I use to enjoy Dave Woolley’s posts and even would reread them at times. They are all off the board now and from reading recent posts the board is changing their bylaws to address some issue they had with him. Seems this issue is coming to a head and it would be interesting if someone could give a brief overview of what has led to the current state of unrest. Thanks, Jp

Dave asked some questions of the Central Office in connection with some financial issues. There are a lot of errors and problems with the association's tax filings. His chapter asked him to pose these questions. Instead of getting these questions answered, there is a movement to throw him out of CLSA. The new bylaws would ratify the notion that if you ask important questions and you disturb the way "business" is done, you can be reprimanded and thrown out. The new bylaws would also empower The Executive Director to have more control over members.
Many of us have asked for an independent audit of the association and instead, the Board of Directors and The Executive Director have lawyered up, increasing the Central Offices legal budget from $5,000 to $25,000 a year. As noted, concurrently, they have had secret meetings to throw the Orange County Chapter President, Dave Woolley out of the association.
As you know Dave made a lot of valuable contributions to the forum but after the forum was so heavily censored, he and others stopped posting.
The planned objective of the bylaws revisions is to take control of the association away from the members and place it under the financial and organizational control of The Executive Director. All of the unrest is a form of civil protest. Many of us have tried the conventional channels of inquiry and petition but like Dave, we have been rebuffed. Please join your fellow surveyors and save the California Land Surveyors Association.
We are developing alternate sites in the event these posts are taken down.

Finally! Someone calling out the BS! I have been waiting to see someone write the other side to this story instead of the endless and annoying "suspend the vote" posts!Stanmyron wrote:This is all BS. I saw the agenda from the BoD and all YOUR questions and Dave's questions were answered in writing with supporting documentation from the organization's legal counsel and accountant. Whether you are satisfied with that response or not doesn't matter. You are not licensed as an attorney or a CPA so stop pretending like you know more than them.
Perhaps others aren't posting as much because they are tired of you sabotaging all their posts with your "SUSPEND THE VOTE" rhetoric. You have your right to your opinion and to vote, same as I do, and same as every other member. Quit trying to force feed your agenda on the rest of us. We are adults, we are surveyors, and we can think for ourselves.
With all due respect for you as a land surveyor, please stop twisting everything around to fit your personal agenda with the executive director. It is annoying and not fitting for you to treat the rest of us members and surveyors like we are ignorant and can't think for ourselves. Please treat the rest of us with the same respect that you are asking from others.

I agree with Mr Myron
You are right, we are adults and we can think for ourselves. My suggestion is to carefully read the proposed BYLAW amendments and then arrive at your own opinion as to whether or not these amendments are in your best interest.
The plain language of the amendments ought to stand on its owns merits.

25 years ago discussions about changes in by laws could only be done at chapter meetings where pros and cons were brought to light.
Today, in the 21st century, with inst sites such as this and webinars discussions that 25 years were confined to chapter meetings are now hashed out on this inet site.
Those who are opposed to the changes I think have discussed them openly and directly. Those in favor of the changes have limited themselves to tell the rest to STFU. To those I say lets go back 150 years where Sam Colt made everyone equal and we will discuss it at high noon.

Defund govt
To fully fund govt first the national debt would have to be paid. The US Govt is $18 TRILLION in debt, using 350 million people in the USA it would require $51,000 from every man, woman and child to pay it off. And that's just the Federal debt. Did you write your check yet?

Can anyone provide a link to the proposed bylaws. I've poked around a little on the CLSA website and can't find anything. Michael's http://www.saveclsa.com link doesn't work.

I haven't notice and censorship, the only removal of posts on the discussion board had to do with anti-trust concerns or the posting of other people’s work product. I do know that Dave Wooley removed all of his posts on his own. Just look at comments on the discussion board indicates a total lack of censorship.
