Really? This seems to be getting dangerously close to discussing things that aren't supposed to be discussed.

What exactly has AMS done for us over the past 30 years of service that would constitute such high praise? I apologize for my ignorance but I am "newer" to the organization.
WOW!!! AMS (specifically Dorothy and her team) are the backbone of CLSA, and have been for a very long time! The hours they spend for us in unaccountable, and in my opinion do not get paid enough!!! Dorothy has always stated at Board Meetings that she isn't doing this for the money, as she loves working with surveyors and the association. As a past chapter president, officers, and Representative, I have first hand knowledge of this as I have been a member of CLSA for over 25 years! Yes for those who know me, and ask I'm not that old, lol, well I first joined CLSA as a student member while attending CSU Fresno in the late 80's, and continue to support CLSA.

This thread is becoming more detrimental to me than a benefit, as a lot of the posts are coming from non-corporate members. Maybe these individuals will step up and become more active in the association for the benefit of ALL.

The association and individuals that are being questioned here are the one's who have made CLSA the pristine association for land surveyors in the United States that we are, and other associations look up to us.

CLSA has the largest organization (BOD) of land surveyors in the US, so I have to believe that decisions being made at the Board Meetings are not one sided, or getting persuaded by others.

Can we please start acting like the great association that we truly are?

CLSA=Profession (we're told)

Does Profession=7702?

If so, then does 7702=CLSA?

(I was never very good at those practice LSAT exams)

Just wondering.

Thank you.

Keith,

Thank you for your response and input and I don't doubt your extensive understanding and knowledge CLSA. I am sure what you have provided to the association has not only been a benefit, but transformed CLSA into what it is today. Although I do see the benefits of having a company like AMS be dedicated to CLSA I have to ask, isn't that just their job? Isn't that we are paying them to do, to be available for our needs as a group? I hope that your statement of "their hours they spend for us in unaccountable" is only a figure of speech and not the actual truth. I personally would like to know how many hours per day/week/month/year they spend on CLSA matters.

As for AMS being the backbone of our organization, I will have to disagree, I think it is our members, chapters and chapter reps who are the "backbone" of the organization. Without them, this organization would not exist nor evolve into the wonderful association of professionals that it is today.

I feel that whether CLSA was to use AMS or any other reputable association management company we would be in the same place professionally that we are today as a whole.

As for responses from non-corporate vs. corporate members, I don't think this is a necessary or prudent point to bring up. Why should my membership status deem whether or not I can weigh in with my opinion? Do I get a ball and gag in my mouth until I become licensed? Is that the way we should treat anyone who is a non-corporate member on this forum? I don't know that I can agree with that type of censorship.

Lastly, I think we can begin to act like the great association we are when we stop putting a bulls eye on individual member's backs. I think personally, if a member is being outspoken about a topic or topics, it should be taken care of at the chapter level, not the BOD level, but only if that topic or topics does not fall in line with the views of the chapter as a whole. If that person holds a prominent position within the chapter and continues to pursue a goal which does not follow the mission of the chapter as a whole, then the chapter has the right to ask the BOD, if needed, for help in moving forward with different leadership.

Keith, I hope you find my post both insightful and unbiased, as well as unoffensive. Again, thank you for your response and opinions, they are valued amongst the profession.

This should be MEMBERS ONLY discussion

Post by hellsangle »

John Q. Public must be laughing their arse off. Professional? Respectful?

This kind of discussion should be for Members Only!

Whatever this riff is about, is it worth losing what those founding fathers fought so hard for.

They were rollin’ in their ashes when engineers were allowed to belong. Now this?

What Gawd-awful thing did someone say or do?

Will these (future) actions be "uniting" or "dividing". If it is dividing - then those that follow us are in deep excrement. Are we leaving “campâ€￾ in better shape than when we arrived?

Have we become so "educated" that we've forgotten our roots?

This Forum has become a Circus of Clowns which is portraying our profession is a less than positive light. I say write CLSA to move this Forum where the public can't view it.

I won't speak to a certain thread or a certain post, but generally speaking NO ONE CARES IN THE WORLD AT LARGE. It is pretty ego-centric to think anyone has said anything on this site that amounts to more than a hill of beans.

if you think of the forum as a marketing tool, then you are probably very unhappy about most of the things posted here. If you think of the forum as a place where surveyors gather to discuss what is on their minds, then recently the forum has been better than usual. I do not expect that to last long.

Mr. Marois,

I don't want this to turn ugly, but I still have a question regarding user name "stanmyron".

I would like to know if you confirmed whether or not a "Stan Myron" is a CLSA member?

Since you were quick to verify my membership status, I assume you have the capability to confirm Mr. Myron's as well.

Thank you for your assistance.
