To begin, my work week starts on Friday, ends on Monday. I love Sunday because everyone is sleeping in from Saturday night, makes it really nice when you have to occupy an intersection.
That said, let me tell my tale.
I did the research Friday and found what looked to be a slam dunk survey on paper. The City of LA survey had gone into the block in 78 (which is recent for the Valley area) and had monumented a city parking lot just one lot up from my lot.
In Jan 2000, another city crew shows up and re monuments the c/l's of the avenues I need for the block breakdown. Again, some nice stuff to have available.
According to their measurements, the block has 6" excess in 450 feet. No problem!
I knew from experience that what's on paper is never ever going to be what's in the field. Murphy is always around adjusting my surveys it seems.
So we get out there and go to the first intersection. Five c/l ties were set, only one remained. Hmmm.
The second intersection has the four ties in place, but one of the tan ties has a dimension bust of 8". hmmm
We go to the third intersection and in the new paving is a nice mag nail. Things are looking better until a couple of measurements reveal that this Maggie is 1.65' west of the tie intersection. This is a scary thing, someone actually placed that Maggie there and most likely used it for another survey. Not my problem!
At our lot, we find two LS tags in the walk, un filed. Misses prorate. The two tags were placed in record from the south, so I just hold them. I mean, someone paid at one time to have these two tags installed and most likely the adjacent property owners also accepted them.
So we do the survey and lo and behold, the north face of the concrete block wall on the south is dead on the lot line based upon the tags and the north edge of the wood fence on the north is also right on the north lot line.
Maybe I'll take a refresher class on pin cushioning and proration, cause I sure seem to be slipping.
