
We are seeking experienced individuals who have extensive technical expertise, outstanding supervision and leadership skills, and strong problem solving skills. Qualified individuals will have experience planning, organizing, and directing complex office and/or field surveying work through subordinate team leaders.
Sr. Land Surveyors are responsible for planning, assigning, and reviewing the work of subordinate teams, checking for accuracy and compliance with technical and legal survey procedures; evaluating employee performance, developing and providing employee training and recommending action on merit increases; identifying, analyzing, and arbitrating complex boundary problems involving discrepancies, overlaps, or gaps between ownership lines: discusses solutions with developers, subdividers, engineers, surveyors, title officers and city engineers to resolve the boundary problem; assigning projects to teams and serves as the project leader over multiple survey parties working together on special projects; and preparing detailed technical reports on surveying projects or studies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Principles and practices of surveying, including boundary determination, legal descriptions, construction, mapping, and hydrographic surveying; principles of algebra, geometry and trigonometry as used in office and field survey analysis; laws, rules and regulations regarding subdivisions of land, boundary locations, mapping and surveying practices; field surveying practices and techniques; civil engineering plans, maps and specifications related to surveying; principles of organization and management; principles of supervision; computer program preparation and use (Engineering Computer Program); technical report writing and correspondence preparation.
ABILITY TO:
Supervise the work of a large technical staff through subordinate supervisors; determine need, plan and evaluate staff training programs; detect errors and problems resulting from mathematical calculations and precise engineering measurements made by others; review, approve and adjust results of survey data made by staff to insure conformance to acceptable surveying principles; read and interpret civil engineering drawings, maps, specifications, legal descriptions, survey field data and survey records; review and prepare complex technical reports and correspondence; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with engineers, developers, contractors and the general public; use a County-approved means of transportation to travel to and from field locations.
REQUIRED LICENSE
Possession of a valid Land Surveyor’s License or valid Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer authorized to practice surveying issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
NOTE: Prior to September 1, 1962, the Land Surveyor’s License or Registration as a Civil Engineer may be waived in lieu of 5 years of sub professional surveying or civil engineering experience including one year as either Survey Party Chief or Surveyor III.
