DESCRIPTION:
Under general direction, may assist in the supervision of a section in the analysis, investigation, research, and checking of parcel maps, records of survey, tract maps; and/or may supervise or assist in the supervision of the office staff who perform geodetic and photogrammetric calculations, mapping, and legal description writing; and performs related work as required.

The ideal candidate will have extensive broad-based experience in land surveying with considerable experience in either reviewing or preparing subdivision maps and records of survey; is able to thoroughly and efficiently analyze complex boundary surveys and provide constructive criticism and advice in a tactful and respectful manner; is self-motivated, adaptable, organized, and efficient; can effectively manage multiple projects and responsibilities under considerable time pressure; communicates well both orally and in writing; works well in a team setting and is willing to learn and share skills with co-workers.

EDUCATION, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:

Considerable experience in land surveying which has led to the acquisition of the required knowledge, skills and abilities. The required knowledge, skills and abilities also can be obtained by completion of a Bachelor's degree in land surveying or civil engineering OR certification as a California Land Surveyor-in-Training. In addition, Surveyor IV requires five years of progressively responsible professional surveying experience, two years of which must be at the Surveyor III level or comparable.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a California Land Surveyor's license or California registration as a Civil Engineer authorized to practice land surveying is mandatory for the IV level.
Must possess and maintain a current valid California driver license.

DESIRED:

Knowledge of Ventura County Subdivision Ordinance and local surveying issues
Experience in public speaking
GIS and/or CAD skills
Experience with Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement methods
Customer service skills
