Monument Preservation Gets Serious

Apparently Ron Nelms, Monument Preservation Committee Chair, has got very aggressive in his role!

Nice job, Mr. Nelms! Is this coming out of your committee budget or are you going to ask for a big increase next year? Is this guy armed?

On the topic, I find it interesting that if you go to the L.A. County Survey Website and pull up the Corner Record index youll see a complete "Void" of filed Corner Records for C/L ties for the City of Pasadena. Its striking because the surrounding Citys are all covered with filed Records. Kudos to the City Engineer/Surveyor and of course the almighty Public Works Director for requiring such. I guess Statutes don't apply to them.

If you were to go to the Pasadena Engineering Department website you would find hundreds, if not thousands, of C/L ties.
They even have fully measured blocks with angles and distances shown on them as well as ties.

Yep. CL tie notes filed at the various cities are not mentioned once in the PLS Act. Yet you can't survey anything in LA city limits without getting them. Whether or not they comply with the PLS Act, they are the absolute best resource for surveying in Los Angeles. Probably 99% of the street CL's in LA are tied out and shown on some kind of CL tie note. Usually the tie notes have all the angles measured to each tie and all the angles and distances measured between each adjoining intersection. The cool thing too is all the historical notes are available. Usually the newer ties refer to the previous tie sheet and so on. Thankfully they are easy to get copies of on Navigate LA.

If you are doing construction surveys in LA (or Pasadena, or any other city that wants their own tie notes) and required to file Pre and Post construction ties with the city, that does not relieve you from the requirement to file Corner Records per state law, no matter what someone else tells you.
