Anyone else miss the "California Surveyor"?

There has been one issue of the Cal Surveyor publication come out since the former editor stepped aside in 2015. It was a nationally award winning publication for many years under the previous editor. It was an outstanding publication that was known more for the excellent content and images than the advertisements. Where has it gone???? I miss it.

The California Surveyor did, indeed, have quite a storied run under the past editor - well worth noting and celebrating!

The CLSA Board of Directors has opted for two issues in 2016 (as well as 2017) and this year's second issue will be mailed very soon. The Board's decision was based on much-needed financial prudence, as the cumulative loss of producing four issues was having a significant impact on CLSA's annual budget. The Board directed the CLSA Central Office to develop and disseminate the monthly CLSA eNews electronic newsletter. We hope you have enjoyed regular editions of CLSA eNews and continue to read California Surveyor.

Administrator - is there a way to request a PDF of the magazine INSTEAD of having it mailed? I know the PDF's are available on the website. But I'd like to request not getting the mailed copies anymore, since I always read the PDF version instead. And that will save you postage and printing.

If it is relevant land surveying content you miss reading I would suggest you check out the Orange County monthly newsletter. There is something for everyone e.g. editorials, local and national issues, legislation updates, legal articles on practice issues. Orange County is a practice based chapter.

Also, if you have something you would like published it will be published.

We realize over 400 downloads of the newsletter within the first 3-4 days of publication.

I do miss it also. It was obviously the product of dedicated persons passionate about the profession as a whole and who saw it as something bigger than themselves. John, Crissy, Dorothy and the countless others who tirelessly contributed to its unparalleled quality, content and regularity deserve far more credit than they ever received. The magazine and the people behind it are sorely missed by those of us who truley appreciated the work they did.

Dues renewals can be processed online now and the dues statements with integrated member cards are headed from the printer to the mailhouse today.

I thought I would mention the quality of our organization's magazine is based in large part on the contributions and support I receive as the volunteer editor. I can count the number of article submissions I've received in the last 12 months on a single hand. I've also only heard from one or two surveyors that have offered to help with editing.

A great publication requires great contributions...not just great readers.

I also let Roger know I was willing to serve as a SHORT TERM and TEMPORARY editor of the California Surveyor until a more suitable permanent editor could be found. If you'd like to take on the responsibility of putting together our bi-annual magazine, I encourage you to reach out to the executive committee. I'd gladly support a new editor, which would include continued submission of my writing for the magazine.

Don't be part of the problem, my peers. Be a part of the solution.

I for one appreciate that you have stepped in to fill the gap until a permanent editor is found. No doubt, it is a time consuming obligation. Hopefully someone with few other irons in the fire and a passion for putting the magazine together on a regular basis will come forward soon.
