Record of Survey for monument preservation

This has been a topic of discussion in my office and wondered if anyone else had any thoughts or personal experience filing a record of survey for monument preservation. The situation we are facing is our project covers a large area & there is potential for approximately 81 monuments to be destroyed or damaged. One solution a LS in my office proposed was to simply file a record of survey per 8771 of the PLS Act. We've yet to contact the county to get their sediments on the subject since it's still be debated in my office. Our current course is to file corner records but I feel a record of survey would be a more clear solution. Any advice pros/cons would be appreciated thanks!

I've done a number of these projects and filed Records of Survey instead of Corner Records. I've attached an example, though it's a rather low-quality scan (thanks, DataTree!).

I like Jim's map. I think that is a great way to do it.

I did one for a grade separation project (railroad crossing) and there really wasn't a way to do pre-construction ties that would last without the ties being really long, So we created stationed alignments and gave stations and offsets for each monument found for Pre-Construction RS and then filed a Post-Construction map after showing the same alignments/offsets to the newly reset monuments. Attached are the Pre and Post construction RS maps. I did the Pre map and a former colleague did the Post map after I left the firm.

I first saw this done by Johnson-Frank on a street widening in Irvine.

I just submitted a Corner record showing that we found original 3/4" ips 1'+ below the AC paving.
I found 5 points within about 900' of each other.
many were missing , butr not all
for the map I just did an overlay on the original tract map with a legend
My primary reason was that there have been corner records and records of surveys done in this subdivision since in which they did not find any original points.
just "fd conc nail" etc.
ya gotta pull that nail , preserve the hole and beep again before giving up
with my corner record in hand the future surveyors will look a little deeper

Please! Please! Please! Don't stop there. Notify the County in writing to get rings around those lovely points you found . . . or they too will be lost in the future. Copy CLSA monument preservation committee if you need some back-up support.
