CLSA should do something about X

Post by rmaher »

Very little of real depth is actually done -at- a CLSA Board of Directors meeting, by design and necessity ... this is not a slight on the Board. Anything significant has been run through one of the numerous committees that are charged with evaluating issues, researching and writing as necessary, and proposing something for the Board to consider and act upon.

List of committees: https://www.californiasurveyors.org/committ.html

With only a few exceptions, these committees are thin on members ... leaving the chair (usually a director, but not required to be) without even a reliable sounding board or much of an alternative perspective, much less collaboration.

Serving on a committee is not an arduous task; at most in general there is a monthly teleconference and any research, writing, or contribution is equally shouldered. This is how things get done though ... if we want new legislation, a group needs to review the existing words and propose new ones. If we want the association to reach out to a group or take a stance publicly, someone needs to come up with the language. If we want input on the nomination of future Board officers, a group needs to weigh the eligible members and put forth a slate. On and on ... a committee needs to do the work.

I chair a committee and am happy to have the sounding board of members to help me feel comfortable and to provide input. I'm also submitting the form below to show my interest in a handful of committees that will receive their charges pending the upcoming Board of Directors Meeting 2/4/17 under the incoming President.

Please consider filling out this form and submitting it per the directions thereon ... your interest will be distributed to the respective chairs and your input on a committee will be valuable to the association.

At the risk of sounding like those annoying FB posts ... most of you won't do this, but please consider making yourself available to a committee.
Take care,

Rich
