REQUEST: Giving us ideas for a Workshop

Post by rmaher »

Thinking of arranging a workshop around July. Maybe one day-long topic or two 1/2-day topics.

Would you be so kind as to take a quick survey and share your interests?

Workshop Survey

Just a thought. There were more than one on the last question that I would have picked, but it would only let me choose one.

I agree with Ryan, the last question should allow more than one choice. The ones that I am most interested in are:

-Ethics and Standard of Care for Land Surveyors

-Tools for Solving Boundary Survey and Land Title Problems

-Common Law Principles Governing Easements

-Assessing and Communicating Risk and Uncertainty In Boundary Location

-The Roots of the American Land Title System

However, a few more were close to getting on the "most" list, and I would have some interest in nearly all of the topics listed.

Ethics and Standard of Care for Land Surveyors
Surveyor Reports – Why, When and How
Meeting the Challenge of Skilled Worker Shortages in Land Surveying and Civil Engineering
Tools for Solving Boundary Survey and Land Title Problems
Common Law Principles Governing Easements
The Roots of the American Land Title System
Understanding the Basics of Land Zoning
The Basics of Land Development Regulations in California
Practical State Plane Coordinates for the Land Surveyor and Civil Engineer

...are all topics I would like to see.

How about Map Projections for Land Surveyors? I am always amazed at how little most CA Surveyors know about map projections. Usually just enough about SPCS to pass the test.

For my workshop list - of the ones listed in the survey...

- Ethics and Standard of Care for Land Surveyors
- Surveyor Reports, Why When and how
- Tools for solving Boundary survey and land title problems
- Documenting property corner history
- Assessing property corner risk
- Common Law principles governing easements
- Assessing and Communicating risk and uncertainty in Boundary location
- The Roots of the American Land Title System

Not listed and contingent on the new PRC code edits that Leg Comm is working on: (perhaps we need something that covers the PRC as it is now and then an update when the PRC is updated in the future.)
- How to Meet the requirements of the PRC on your survey products (RS, Final Maps, legal descriptions/plats, etc.)

Sure! Why not? Learning is always good, even for our PE brethren.

Just because civil engineering developed out of the Rope Stretcher Priesthood doesn't mean we should look down our noses at them.

Interpersonal relationships and how to be an effective leader without bullying seems like a couple that come to mind.
