Use NEW Corner Record from after March 31
April 1, 2017, all new Corner Record submittals must use the new form. Any Corner Record forms that were signed, sealed and dated in accordance with Title 16, CCR Section 411, and submitted to the appropriate agency prior to the aforementioned effective date do not need to be submitted on the new form.

I haven't looked at these to verify them, but LA County has put templates for the new CR form on their website in DWG and DGN format.

Glad I could beat somebody to getting the word out, Ed. Janine Hampton spotted the news before I did, and shared it with Julia MacRory, and thus the entire LCSO-North group before I got the posting up. Warren Smith had already mentioned it to the CEAC Survey Policy Committee Group. Thanks County of LA for nice resource files and Ryan for the heads-up!

Re: Use NEW Corner Record from after March 31
I know the form went through a good review process, but how many RCE's are still practicing? There is no revision for a pdf fillable for the "PLS or RCE"? Counties want this electronically submitted, but now an extra step to print, line out "RCE", and rescan to send in.
Just my two thoughts, and maybe since this is so obvious, all County Surveyors missed it?

Re: Use NEW Corner Record from after March 31
The form says "P.L.S. or R.C.E. number," so in my view there's no need to line out anything.Counties want this electronically submitted, but now an extra step to print, line out "RCE", and rescan to send in.
Now, if you want to pick nits, in my opinion it should no longer refer to RCEs, as they've been regarded as "licensed" rather than "registered" for quite a few years. Remember when it was the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors? Now it's the Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists. No more registration, we're all licensees on this bus. I never did see an official explanation, but I infer that the Board decided that it had lots of authority to regulate licensees, but maybe not so much authority to regulate professionals for which it merely served as a registrar.

I personally enjoy lining out the RCE on every CR. Been doing it since 82.

PE Act and BR require branch of engineering to be specified in PE seal. Given that, there is no need to "line out" or "circle" anything. The required seal makes it obvious.PLS7393 wrote:I know the form went through a good review process, but how many RCE's are still practicing? I'm not 100% sure, but I think there are more pre-82 CE's with active licenses than there are LS's with active licenses in CA. I'm guessing Ric may be able to confirm that I'm correct or smoking something. I think I read this somewhere within that last couple of years or so.

In San Diego County, they will review them electronically but they are to be filed on standard card stock.

Fresno County will also accept the Corner Records for review electronically, with cardstock finals.mpallamary wrote:In San Diego County, they will review them electronically but they are to be filed on standard card stock.

Re: Use NEW Corner Record from after March 31
As I prepare my first CR on the new form, the drawing space on Page 2 of 2 got a lot smaller?
The old form had a space of 7.2" x 9.8"
The new form has the borders at 6.6" x 9.2"
So with all County Surveyors and the Board reviewing and working on this, what is the reasoning for the extra border on this new form?
Will my document not be filed by the County Surveyor if I expand the borders?
Thanks,
Keith Nofield, PLS

Re: Use NEW Corner Record from after March 31
The important part of the Corner Record is the information and data for the monument in question, not the presentation of said information. Unlike the Map Act which spells out map border dimensions, the Corner Record form has no such mandate that I'm aware of. Fresno County doesn't check the border dimensions on a Corner Record and certainly wouldn't leave one unfiled because of a rogue border, even if a border wasn't present.PLS7393 wrote:Will my document not be filed by the County Surveyor if I expand the borders?
Your mileage may vary, depending on your County of Choice.

The Corner Record form is defined in regulation (Board Rules). The form published by BPELSG must be used as it is provided.

Re: Use NEW Corner Record from after March 31
Before the last couple of PLS tests the number of active licenses was approximately 4200, probably about 4275 now.pls7809 wrote:I'm not 100% sure, but I think there are more pre-82 CE's with active licenses than there are LS's with active licenses in CA. The number of active Pre-82 civil engineering licenses was approximately 10,000 a couple of years ago. They are fading fast. The youngsters, licensed in 1982, are at least 60 years old. Most of these folks do not survey.
Good memory Ryan - please keep reading the Practice Based Chapters' newsletter. Always some fun facts published in there.
