Land Survey Technician-San Jose, CA

Compensation: Depending on Experience, and full benefits

Employment type: Full-time starting ASAP

Underwood & Rosenblum, Inc. in San Jose, California is looking for an active, motivated, quick learner for a permanent, full-time (even in winter) position as a Land Survey Technician in our dynamic long-time, medium-sized, non-union Civil Engineering firm. The survey department has over 50 years combined survey experience, in addition to the two Principals who have 30+ years each. This is a place without much turnover for good reason.

The person in this position will initially assist the surveyors and survey techs in the department with their work in the field and the office, but will gradually be given more responsibility as they learn, to the point where they will be managing their own projects. We have a unique working experience here at Underwood & Rosenblum. All the surveyors are trained to do everything needed for office and field work in the field of surveying. You will not be pigeon-holed into one specific boring job. If you want to learn it, we will teach it to you. Within 1-2 years you will be trained up enough to be running your own projects from start to finish, including the drafting!

Survey experience is preferred, but we will train the right person even if you have no experience. The job will be mostly in the field, but there will be plenty of office work as well.

Some of the job activities that will initially be done (under supervision as needed): Assist in the field and office work of all types of surveys; set up the latest survey equipment; take various measurements; read and analyze plans; construction staking; computer drafting (AutoCAD); and sketching and taking notes on plans.

Basic Requirements:
High school graduate with good math and computer skills;
Current Driver’s License;
Solid oral and written communication skills;
Strong work ethic and accountability;
Be a self-starter who will ask questions as needed;
Be able to follow direction with minimal mistakes, and work well with others;
Be able to pass a fingerprint and background check as needed;
Be able to perform strenuous physical activities for an extended period of time;
Be willing to take job-related classes and study as needed on your own time;
Be looking at or committed to Land Surveying as a career.

Additional Skills that are a plus:
Surveying field and office experience;
Land Surveyor-In-Training Certificate;
Working knowledge of Autodesk AutoCAD (ideally a more current version);
College education (especially in a related field).
