Starbucks Construction In Palo Alto Destroys Monuments

I'm working on a boundary survey in Palo Alto. I've got a Starbucks a block down from my subject parcel that was built in the last few years. It looks like they wiped out as least one chiseled cross and one iron pipe monument with the site improvements, and possibly bulldozed a couple more. The starbucks parcel also isn't shown on a record map. There is no corner record or record-of-survey map on file with the County.

Let me know if you've got a contact at the CLSA Chapter PPC that covers Palo Alto. I don't want whoever did this to go to jail, but I do want them to file a record-of-survey and reset the mons they destroyed.

I'm also looking for a contact at the City of Palo Alto so I can find out which company/surveyor prepared the site plan and improvement plans.

I get so tired of seeing this everywhere I look. How do you build new commercial structures on a small urban lot this isn't on a map, destroy the mons, and then not file a record-of-survey? Didn't somebody need to show property lines and setbacks on a site plan? Doesn't that require a boundary survey?

Does the City of Palo Alto not have any monument preservation requirements as part of its development approval or building permit process?

Dallas.sweeney@dca.ca.gov or 916-263-2271. He’s the main liaison for monument desctruction. He can look up the NODD firm and contact the City. Only way to ensure it gets the attention it deserves and also ensure there’s a plan in place for future accountibility.

I believe James Bourquin is the City Surveyor there last I heard. The number I have for him is 650.496.6952 which may not be current. I don't believe they have a monument preservation system in place.
