I don’t cut crosses.

I cut lots of them -- often a dozen or more on even modest-sized projects. I use them for control, not for monumentation. They last as long as the concrete does; I've recovered and reused some that I set 25 years ago.I don’t cut crosses.
I use a Makita tile saw with a diamond grit blade, which I run dry. Works great!

Dewalt cordless angle grinder with carbide blade
I usually collect the small throwaways off the job site that the big steel cutters discard from their gas tools.
These are also great for cutting off t-posts, steel pipes or gate chains in a pinch

Mr. Magee, I forgot to say that I set cut ( or chisel) cross for control point only. I'm with you on tagging monuments.William Magee wrote:I don’t cut crosses.

Been using a Dewalt cordless drill with a small circular diamond saw blade which I attach to the drill using a mandrel bit.

Cut off saw! Because it is more of a general use tool. Cutting chain (and adding lock) to locked gates.... :). Jp

I use a Dremel with a conical shaped bit that I use with a 1"x2" to guide it.
It probably won't make as neat a cut as you want, but I'm required to put "T"s on transit ties and they need to have 2" stems and tops and be 1/8" wide.

What is wrong with lead and tags? Get a drill, drive in the stick of lead and a ribbed brass nail---now that's a good permanent monument!

Re: Cordless Tools for cutting cross in concrete
Well, I don't need a permanent monument, I'm just setting a temporary control point inside a property where everything will be demolished. The concrete where I set the cross on will most probably be gone next time I visit the site.pls5528 wrote:What is wrong with lead and tags? They're certainly durable, but I wonder if setting them complies with OSHA rules and health and safety codes. Lead has very few friends these days, unless you're dealing with ionizing radiation or car batteries. What is wrong with lead and tags?
