Metal Locator

Post by Gromatici »

What's the brand of metal locator than cancels out chain link fences? Do any of you have it and how well does it work?

I thought I saw a instruction manual from Schonstedt that said to hold the locator 90 degrees to the fence.

I can't find it just this minute, but Schonstedt does have this nice video on basics:

I am not sure the one you are talking about, but when I am around barbed wire or chain link fence I use a Garrett Pin Pointer, the one I have has different settings but the most powerful setting it only detects at about a 6-8" radius which makes working around fence corners a little more manageable. Although you need tight search areas for it to be effective.

I’ve had one for 20 years and will buy another if this one ever needs replacing.

It works off of polarity direction by differentiation of vertical vs horizontal magnetic flux. So it can get vertical flux readings near chain link fence. So not a miracle tool, but still is amazing. Can also be switched to standard metal detection.
