A question arose on another forum about the origins of Official Maps, which are codified in Government Code §66499.50 - 66499.58. Although I've relied on them a number of times for boundary work -- the only ones I've seen are from the first half of the 20th century -- I've only surmised that they came into being as a means of formalizing a town's development pattern.
Anyone here know the history of Official Maps?
