Hourly wage for part time Chainman

I'm thinking about hiring a Student to help me with field work. What is the going rate for a part-time Chainman?

I would say it depends on their experience. If you have to stop and explain everything to do that would certainly cut into the productive time. I would pay a totally inexperienced person who I had to train about half or less of what I would pay someone who could respond to every order quickly and correctly. I'm under contract to pay prevailing wages on public works jobs, so I expect a lot from my helpers.
