Highway markings?

What the heck is the purpose of these? (picture attached)
Mobile lidar? New-fangled panel points?
There are several on State Route 12, in Sonoma County, between Kenwood and Agua Caliente.

It is a warning mark for bicyclists. In this case it marks the start of a shoulder rumble strip.

we have it here, near intersections, but are evenly spaced. Thought it might be distance markers for CHP air patrol

CHP air patrol markings are a single line perpendicular to the edge line, so I don't think it is for that.

Can any of you who have seen these provide a more specific location as to these markings such as cross-street, postmile, or nearest street address?

Dedkad . . .

The one in the picture is at Highway 12 near PM 32.35. They are NOT mile marks for CHP. They are randomly all over the place but ALWAYS begin and terminate on the fog line.

Rumble strip seems plausible . . . but makes no sense. (I looked at the photo more closely and the rumble strip does appear to "start" there.)
