Surveying Atchison and Topeka Right of Way in Franklin Canyon - Christie Road area northeast of Richmond, CA. Does anyone know who i could contact for railroad right of way mapping? The railroad runs along HWY 4.

You may be able to view the Railroad maps at the Assessor's Office. The maps are usually transmitted to them for assessment purposes.

Ken, If this part of the railroad is owned by Burlington and Santa Fe you can look for Valuation Maps from them. I looked for a contact number in my old files and I had no luck. You will need to know a railroad mileage post. If they have the info you will have top ay for the maps. You get 5 maps and the cost is over $100+
If the R-O-W was turned over to a smaller operating railroad you most likely be out of luck.
Contact a local Historical society and see if they have any information. Also try a railroad museum in the area if one exists.
Just some thoughts.

If it were me, I would pay a visit to Contra Costa Public Works - 255 Glacier Way, Martinez. They are open for in person visits. Their survey department is very organized, with lots of records.

You might check with the State Board of Equalization as they have some old RR maps. This is the contact I have used. He will need like the township, range and if you could get a mile marker that would be helpful. Happy hunting...
