Scam

Post by kwilson »

Thought I would mention this that just occurred.

Our email was hacked into somehow. The scammer was able to see email invoices between us and our clients. These emails were part of an online payment service like a middleman that collects money from the client and then forwards it to us. It has worked well for several years. But recently, the hackers were able to send emails to our clients using our email address, name, phone number and made it look like it was us. They told our clients that we have changed our payment method and asked them to send the money to Zelle or a bank account in Ohio. They even provided the account number. Some of our clients fell for it and others didn't.

We found out that there was another device on our network that apparently was being used in this regard. We are going back to using hard copy checks for now.
