Looking for Information about Homer Banks PLS 3279

Post by polaris »

Hello

I am retracing a survey in Merced County. One of the surveyors was Homer H. Banks, PLS 3279 who had an office in Placerville.

Is there anyone out there who has retraced any of his work or knows where his records may be?
If so, please contact me. I would love to get some more information.
Thanks,

Might contact Jack Sweeney. Jack surveyed in the Placerville area for over 50 years. He might have some information.

From Evan Page:

Homer Banks has a lot of recorded maps at El Dorado County, but a lot of his unfiled work can probably be found at the El Dorado County Historical Museum. They have records from several local surveyors there and I believe Homer's were among them. They're only open a couple days per week and I don't recall which days.

My experience following his work was that sometimes his measurements were a bit sketchy - I've heard that he did some of his work with a staff compass - but the evidence he found and used was good.

Good luck.

Evan Page, PLS
