Robotic Total Stations

Post by kwilson »

I am looking for an alternative to our current field system. We have 3 Trimble Robotic Total Stations and use TSC3 and TSC7 controllers with Trimble Access software. I was wondering what others were using. The Trimble equipment has been very good, reliable and effective for us but are there other brands out there that you like using?

And I am not looking for more expensive equipment (Leica I believe). Thanks for your responses.

as a previous Trimble S6 user, I am happy with The Carlson CR2+. 5+ years and no issues. Significant cost savings.

Although my "daily driver" robot is now almost 10 years old, I've been very happy with GeoMax. Leica quality and performance without the Leica price tag. I replaced a Leica TCRA1102plus with this GeoMax Zoom 80R, and the performance is the same or better. Color aside, it looks, feels and runs like a Leica, albeit a generation or so older than the current Leica flagship instruments.

One issue to be aware of: I run my GeoMax with SurvCE over a bluetooth connection, which requires (I think) a Leica GeoCOM license. My understanding is that Leica no longer provides GeoCOM licenses, so I'm not sure how the communication with the data collector works on newer GeoMax robots. But I know who does know: Mark Silver of Igage Mapping Corporation. I didn't buy robot from Mark -- I'm not sure he was a GeoMax dealer in 2015 -- but I've found him to be extraordinarily helpful and his prices quite competitive. Highly recommended.
