For a couple of decades now I've pointed to Solano County as the gold standard for the way filed maps should be made available online. Their website was easy to navigate, and all filed maps were downloadable, no fees or account required. But when I tried to grab a map just now my link didn't work, and despite searching various places in the website I'm not able to find any links to filed maps.
My more paranoid side wonders if some dunderheaded bureaucrat has decided that the public shouldn't have ready access to public information and has taken the maps offline. I'd be grateful if someone can point me to a link that dispels that fear.
In the mean time, I was able to get the map I need from Keith Spencer's excellent repository (thanks yet again, Keith!), but I remain a firm believer in the notion that serving up these maps is properly a function of local government.

I'd like to see the CLSA step up at the State level to support Keith's work and bring it into another accessible system. Especially with more and more surveyors passing away and leaving behind map collections, we could start preserving this information with a very small investment, and categorize it slowly as the need arises

The Solano County Surveyor's website includes a link to the new map download page which combines Assessor's Parcel Maps and Filed Maps.

The new landing page for map resources makes it appear that only Assessor's map pages are available, but keep scrolling down and you'll find Parcel Maps, Final Maps, and Records of Survey.

Re: Solano County Maps -- What Happened?
Hey Jim - Apologies for the delayed response. I am not in the forum as much as I would like. Solano County recently did a face lift of the website which was definitely needed. During the course of the facelift, I was able to create a County Surveyor page which Solano has never had in years past. As Danielle posted above, I have included links to the Recorded Maps, which remain free and without a login required. Unfortunately, the Assessor/Recorder is not within these forums, and they control that page. I would highly recommend you send them an email regarding your challenges. If they are not aware, they will not change their format.

Got it, thanks to both of you for getting me in the right place! I'll resume lauding Solano County whenever I need to gripe about Yolo or Sacramento...
