I have retired - Pallamary

Post by mpallamary »

I hope this note finds everyone healthy and prosperous. I retired earlier this year following a debilitating stroke last November. Unfortunately, it damaged an integral part of my brain. It turns out I might have had two of them. I ended up in the hospital for a month and have paralysis on my left side and other complications.

I closed my office down and gave away a lot of literature to San Diego surveyors.

I am still trying to wrap up a few projects when the spirit moves me. I am really having a lot of problems.

On a bright note, my granddaughter Paige got married. That is hard to believe. It gives me something to celebrate!

To everyone, stay healthy and keep moving the ball forward. There is still a lot of work to do.

Mike,

One day at a time! I am semi retired, and it is quite the change after 50 years of it. I became a great grandfather six months ago.

Hi Mike,
I was aware of some of your health issues, but not all. I think of you often and miss the opportunity to continue working with you on special projects.
Not sure what has or happened to The Beach Project, but I am still available to help them out if needed up here in N. CA.
I still have some pretty cool pictures when we were on the coast, and was hoping to share with others one day.

Keep up your always positive attitude, and as mentioned, one day at a time. I will have some vino and a cigar thinking of good ole times together.

Your forever friend,

Very sorry to learn of your stroke(s) and complications, I trust you're under good care.

I still, on occasion, find myself re-reading your interview with Norm Glover. Like you, he had a fascinating and prolific career, and I'm grateful that you took the time and trouble to document some of it. Since Norm was active in my area in the late '50s, I even get to retrace some of his work now and then.

Mike. It is humbling to say the least for medical issues to effect what you do in life. My first experience in that happened while I was working in the field on a project in Truckee, Ca. I was fifty five at the time. It was a rather warm day and we were close to 5800 feet ASL. We were doing construction staking on a large custom residential lot with solid rock underneath about 2-3" of dirt. They data collector went on the fritz about an hour into the day, so I old schooled it took out my 41CX and calculated all of the azimuths and distances on the fly from whatever control point I was at. At the end of the day, I was sun burnt, bones ached and couldn't catch my breath. Since then, I have retired and have had two back surgeries, cataract surgeries and a knee replacement. For someone that was an avid snow skier, a gymnast, a surfer to what I am today, is hard to accept. Anymore, I just thank God every day, for another day and am thankful for that and what I have had. I am happy with my wife, kids and grand kids and being a part of our profession for over 50 years.
Hang in there my friend. Semper Fi! Michael J. Walters PLS 5528
