Gosh, on the LACSD website, this position is listed under the categories of "trades" and "construction trades", even though the duties occur within the engineering office. There is an engineering position advertised as well, listed under "professional" and "engineering". Some nerve.

I worked on a federal highway project a few weeks ago where everyone was making lots of money (Davis Bacon prevailing wages) except for the surveyors. The unlicensed surveyors/techs doing the control and construction staking were told that they were just technicians so they didn't qualify for a decent wage. I was told that since I was a licensed "professional" that I didnt' qualify either. Seems unfair when a an unlicensed grade checker is making twice what the project LS is. What gives?

Grade checkers have made more money than surveyors for decades. I was made aware of this back in the late 80's. Where have you been hiding, lol.

I was actually hired as a regular employee by a private road construction company that works primarily on federal highway projects. They also tricked me into using my own truck as a work truck, with no reimbursement.

They bled me for a couple weeks and then I graciously bowed out.
