Need Help Researching UPRR Survey Data

Post by Lee Hixson »

Anyone had any luck getting anything beyond the usual R/W maps from UPRR, which are available from most County offices? I need a BM (or any other elevation data) along one of their lines. I've tried the R/W office in Omaha, but they said they won't give out anything other than the R/W maps. Surely they must have either design or construction drawings, or as-built surveys. Something.

I worked on a project once that had me contacting the Kansas City Southern Railroad's GIS department and found that they had more info on Rail Roads (not just their own) then any government agency. It cost me about $75, but I had images of old deeds, Construction notes and other complete with matching line work in CAD files the next day.

Thanks for the tip re the Central Office. As an update, my original contact with UPRR landed me in the R/W office, where I was told that they couldn't allow any elevation data to be released. Go figure.

So I persisted and eventually got a number for the engineering office and they send me a pdf of a Plan & Profile drawing. Barely legible, but I eventually figured out what the elevation of the rail was designed to be at.

Persistence.
