The Position

The new Assistant Land Surveyor will join three other Assistants reporting to the Land Surveyor in the Environmental Services Division of the Engineering Department. Assistant Land Surveyors plan and perform field and office surveys; establish and maintain survey records and maps; provide technical assistance to the Land Surveyor and other members of staff. Duties may include:

• lead a survey party performing horizontal control, vertical control, topographic, construction, monitoring, engineering and boundary surveys

• operate and maintain survey instruments, both terrestrial and GPS; train others in the proper practices and techniques of field survey work

• make clear and accurate field notes; utilize electronic data collection systems supplemented by field notes; edit and process electronic data using Autocad-based software

• search public records for maps and deeds

• prepare legal descriptions, corner records and record maps; check survey maps and descriptions for accuracy and conformance with surveying principles and practices and applicable laws, rules, and regulations

• solve boundary and engineering survey problems
