Contribute Your Static Observation to the Central Valley Control Network

We need your static GPS data.

As part of the work to survey centerline monuments for the San Joaquin County Summer 2012 Chip Seal Projects CLSA Central Valley Chapter volunteers Alfredo Mijango, Chris Martin, and Landon Blake will be producing a control network and control survey for the California Central Valley centered around San Joaquin County. The network will include PBO Stations, CORS, and CSDS RTN Stations, and control points set as part of the field work.

Static ties to centerline monuments and control points will be taking place on Friday, September 14, 2012 and Friday, September 21, 2012. Additional observations may be taken on the other Fridays in September and early October of this year.

If you would like to include a point in the network, you can make static observations on any of these days from 6AM to 6PM. Your point should be within about a 120 mile radius from Stockton. Send your static data files and information on your control point to Landon by e-mail at lblake@ksninc.com or sunburned.surveyor@gmail.com. Your observations will be included in the GPS data processing and network adjustment. The control coordinates and estimated accuracy for your control point will be included in the control survey, which should be published before the end of the year, and will be made freely available to everyone over the internet. The network will be based on the NGS NAD 83 (2010 Epoch Date) Horizontal Datum and the NAVD 88 Vertical Datum. A survey control book will be produced for the network, so monument photos and a monument description should be included.

Observations on control points within 30 miiles of Stockton need to be AT LEAST 30 minutes. However, for points farther than 30 miles, observations of 2 hours or more are required. The longer occupations of 2 hours or more are needed to ensure the required accuracy for inclusion in the control network.

I wanted to post a clarification after receiving a couple of questions.

We are doing the static ties to centerline monuments for the San Joaquin County Summer 2012 Chip Seal Project on Fridays. If you want to take observations on other days of the week and submit them, you can. I can still process to CORS and PBO stations in the network and incorporate your data. But I probably won’t have GPS rovers collecting static data on those days.

On Fridays, I get extra baselines if your receivers are running at the same time as mine.
