Efforts of Your State Legislative Committee

SB 1576 was chaptered September 27, 2012 and will become effective January 1, 2013:

http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/11-12/bill/sen/sb_1551-1600/sb_1576_bill_20120927_chaptered.pdf

Amends Business and Professions Code, Section 8741 to repeal the LSIT waiver for those individuals holding an EIT certificate and further clarifies that only California-licensed Civil Engineers are exempt from obtaining the LSIT certification prior to applying for the Professional Land Surveyor license.

Also amends the PLS Act to clarify the BLM Manual reference and amends Section 8762(b)(4) to include "...the location, relocation, establishment, reestablishment or retracement..." language.

Your Legislative Committee worked closely with the Land Surveyor representatives from ACEC-CA to make this happen.

Ric,

One question regarding this new law. I know someone that is taking the National LS in a couple of weeks and plans to take the state PLS in April 2013 that has an EIT. What is the effect on this person?

Thanks,

Ryan.

Ryan,

Anyone applying before the effective date of this legislation (January 1, 2013) should not be affected by the changes.
