California Central Valley Control Network Version 1.04 Released

I'm please to announce the release of a Version 1.04 of the California Central Valley Control Network (CCVCN).

This release adds 2 secondary control points from the Delta. (There is one on McDonald Island and one on Fabian Tract.) It also adds a secondary control point east of Stockton near Linden.

PBO Station P308 has also been added as a new primary control point in this version.

You can download the current published coordinates for all points in the network, a KML file for all the secondary control points, and a new survey control report for the entire network from this online folder:

The second folder also contains a survey control report for just the points being added to the network in this release.

I'll be creating a new survey control report for every release of the network moving forward. I should've done this from the start.

Steve Martin from EBMUD got me thinking about how I can support the requirements of the Public Resources Code with my network. This is a great goal. I'm in the midst of some research on this topic, and may have some questions to post about it here.

Please let me know if you have any questions, or if you want to donate your static data observations to the network. (All I need is your static data file, the date of your survey and a brief description of the monument observed.)

I've spent the last couple of weeks digging into the Public Resources Code as it applies to state plane coordinates. I must admit that I'm more confused now than when I started.

I know use of state plane coordinates under certain circumstances can trigger the requirements of the Public Resources Code. I'm still trying to figger out exactly when this applies, if my control survey meets pulls the trigger, and if I need to make modifications to the way my control survey is packaged to meet the requirements of the law.

The preparation of the survey control reports for the network was (I hope) one step in the right direction.

I'd love to hear comments from other surveyors on this forum that are more experienced than I am on the way Public Resources Code applies to the use of State Plane Coordinates in California.

Attached is a portion of my presentation from the Northern Counties Chapter conference this past February which highlights the Public Resources Code.

In short, if your goal is to have a survey and/ or map tied to the legal reference system for California that other Surveyors can base their Surveys on, you have to follow the Public Resources Code.
