San Diego County BMs in Google Earth

Post by Ben Lund »

Has anyone seen Google Earth KMZ files of vertical benchmarks for San Diego County?

No and I am not certain they exist. Good luck.

OLD stuff

Here is a plot of an AutoCAD drawing I put together 20 years ago that graphically shows where the NAVD88 Benchmarks are.

I do not have all of the fonts originally used so it is not as pretty as it used to be.

If the AutoCAD file is on state plane then you can drag the AutoCAD file into TBC (Trimble Business Center), select all the objects and export it to Google Earth. Text won't come across. I'm positive lines will, but not sure about points. Might be worth a try though. Even if you have Lat Long info on a few of the points you can then get it oriented onto rough state plane and make it into a KMZ.

I do this with my boundary CAD files all the time. It works with Microstation DGN files as well.

Steve, do you if this file is around in CAD and if so, who has it?

Thanks

Mike, I just saw your post and Ryan's.

I had an old copy of the Release 14 drawing on a disk somewhere at home. I can send it to you if you like.
