x,y Equal Distant from n points

Post by Ben Lund »

I'm looking for an equation that can solve for a point that is equal distant from n number of points. I've been taught this but now cannot even find it. :) Thanks!

Ben, you must have left part of the question out of your post. The only way for an unknown point to be equal distance from n number of other points is if all the n points define a circle and the unknown point is the radius point.

Stan,
Good point! (badum ching) You are correct and maybe that's why it has been hard for me to find an equation. Any THREE points make a circle and thus only one point is the center of the circle. A fourth point may or may not be on the circle. I believe this is the same as a three point resection problem.
