Starting mid-December of this year San Diego County’s Recorder will be filing new Final Maps, Parcel Maps, and Records of Survey with sequential numbers (regardless of map type) beginning with the recording year much like deeds are now recorded. Maps will no longer be recorded with category map numbers (for example, Parcel Map 17000) but it will have a map number that matches the recording number, such as 2015-7012345. The current county Survey Record System (SRS) is designed around the current map numbering system. Maps numbered in a new system will conflict with the existing SRS and could require an expensive overhaul.
Are any of the other counties planning on this type of recording method?

Currently, Sacramento County files maps in the “typical†Final Map, Parcel Map, and Record of Survey categories. The Recorder’s Statement will show the filing information; e.g., Book 382 of Maps at Page 001, Book 221 of Parcel Maps at Page 001, and Book 085 of Surveys at Page 001, respectively. In 1990, the County also “recorded†the map; thus, the Statement included Document No. 900102-0001 (YYMMDD-PPPP), and around 1997 the information was “upgraded†to Document No. 19970102-0001 (YYYYMMDDD_PPPP).
Within their database, the Recorder has added a “code†for every document; 433=Parcel Map, 435=Final Map, and 436=Record of Survey. Someone coded all the maps back to 1850. The same can not be said for deeds prior to 1980.
The County is currently in the midst of hiring a new County Clerk/Recorder, so stay tuned for the evolution of “recording†in Sacramento County.

Map research at the SD county surveyors office is a real experience.
I equate it to a root canal without gas.

Defund govt
To fully fund govt first the national debt would have to be paid. The US Govt is $18 TRILLION in debt, using 350 million people in the USA it would require $51,000 from every man, woman and child to pay it off. And that's just the Federal debt. Did you write your check yet?
