DPSI is actively seeking a full-time, entry level SURVEY TECHNICIAN position for our Bakersfield and San Luis Obispo office.
General Summary
Survey Technician I will assist the party chief(s) with daily tasks, taking measurements, interpreting survey calculations, and assisting with mapping, drafting, researching, and operating precise surveying instruments.
Essential Job Function
1. Assume the role of a survey chainman when operating in the field
2. Maintain cleanliness of company vehicle
3. Consistently stock the company vehicle with necessary items
4. Set up traffic safety and control devices at the work site, under the precise direction of the party chief
5. Direct traffic when required
6. Learn to read and understand detailed drawings, charts and plans
7. Assists Party Chief in field operations, including setup of field equipment
8. Adjust and operate surveying instruments such as prisms, theodolites, and electronic distance-measuring equipment.
9. Record survey measurements and descriptive data using notes, drawings, sketches, and inked tracings.
10. Search for section corners, property irons, and survey points.
11. Position and hold the vertical rods, or targets, that theodolite operators use for sighting to measure angles, distances, and elevations.
12. Lay out grids, and determine horizontal and vertical controls.
