SHN Engineers & Geologists is seeking a California Licensed Professional Land Surveyor with experience in a variety of survey projects to be part of our survey team in our Eureka, California regional office. This position provides assistance to SHN’s staff of engineers, geologists, and related service professionals and develops stand-alone survey projects for our private and public sector clients.
The Professional Land Surveyor is responsible for the development and management of survey projects for our private and public sector clients, as well as our in-house team of professionals, and will work within the region and other SHN regional offices as needed to support company-wide project development. The Professional Land Surveyor will work with our Project Managers and the Regional Manager to develop scope, budget, and schedule for various projects within our multiple disciplines.
SHN provides rural engineering-related services throughout Northern California and Oregon. As a firm, through our efforts, we strive to enhance the communities we live and work in.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Thorough knowledge of field/office surveying methods, practices, techniques, legalities, and mathematical procedures of surveying
• Using AutoCAD and Trimble software to develop project design documents and communicate with internal staff and external partners and clients using these documents/software
• Planning and organizing the work of the field survey crews and office staff to achieve successful project delivery
• Communicating regularly with clients and SHN staff about projects, scope, schedule, cost, resource allocation, and prioritization
• Supervising, managing, and guiding other professional staff and less experienced staff; providing overall project management and quality control
• Actively promoting the company through business development activities, including the development and preparation of project proposals for a wide array of projects
REQUIRED EDUCATION, REGISTRATION, AND CERTIFICATIONS:
• Graduation from an accredited vocational school, college or university with studies in Geomatics/Surveying, Engineering, or related fields; B.S. Degree in Geomatics or Surveying is desired
• California Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) registration is required; CFed a plus
• Minimum of five (5) years post license (PLS) experience
• Fluency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Trimble software
• U.S. citizenship or authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
• Valid California Driver's license within 30 days of hire date
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Bend, reach (overhead), or stoop for prolonged periods
• Drive a motor vehicle to perform work-related duties
• Exert force, lift, push, pull, or carry up to 30 pounds of weight
• Hear, understand, and respond to verbal information in person, by phone, or by electronic mail with the public and co-workers
• Manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a computer keyboard and mouse (make fast, simple, dexterous, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists)
• Reach by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction
• See, read, and understand written information in all forms, both electronic and hard copy
• Sit in a normal seated position for extended periods
• Walk or stand for prolonged periods
• Work outside in all weather conditions and in all terrains
