NCEES 2016 Summit Meeting on the State of Surveying

I am delighted to be an invited participant in the upcoming NCEES summit on the future of land surveying which will be held on January 22, 2016 in San Diego. This summit follows the announcement in 2014, when NCEES President David Widmer, PLS, appointed a task force to "evaluate the current state of the surveying profession in terms of what NCEES can do to mitigate the low number of candidates seeking licensure as professional surveyors and better market the value of a career in the surveying profession." As a result of the work of this task force, NCEES has approved funding for a gathering of several stakeholders to discuss these very issues. This meeting will be the first time that such a diverse group of geospatial stakeholders has met. This is an opportunity for all interested organizations to leverage their efforts to improve professionalism in all geomatics/surveying and mapping fields. The discussion will concentrate on branding, recruiting and educating the public and students on the surveying/geomatics profession, as well as discussing a plan of action.
