Google Earth PRO

Post by Jay Wright »

I understand that the parcel lines layer is going away this weekend.

Do you use it as a research tool?
I don't really need it in my home county but it is a big help in others.

What will you replace it with?

Not sure yet. Looking for options though if anyone has one. Doesn't Data Tree or Docedge offer the aerial photo/GIS property line overlay? LandVision is another product I have a history of using, but it can be expensive.

Datatree has it, we were paying $100 a month which includes 15 deed downloads. Parcel quest has it but their service costs more monthly. Neither works as smoothly as Google earth, nor are the image qualities as high. GE parcel lines were real handy for a while, I will certainly miss that service! Someone must have been paid or sued I suppose. I expect the parcel data layer will be offered again soon as a paid subscription. I was wondering if I could download a parcel data file from the county GIS and drop it into GE

ArcGIS Earth is a new product that Esri and Google teamed up for. No word on ArcGIS Earth Pro though.

As local agencies GIS mapping and online presence continues to expand, you might be able to get what you need for free on their websites. My city has GIS mapping available online where you can turn on an aerial layer to see the parcel lines in context with the aerial. Unfortunately, the aerial photo is not as current as Google's.

The Pro layer is missing this morning. I guess it's really gone. :(
