Just trolling around to see if anybody would care to share any stories about illegal subdivisions, and the consequences faced thereafter?

"Planning Commissioner Michelle Ollar-Burris Placer County" - she was approving four by four subdivisions.

"Mayor Huntington Beach Pam Julien Houchen Prison" - she was a partner in illegally converting apartments into condos. She had three little girls when she was sent to prison. The title officer got lucky and died before he was sentenced.

also, on a smaller scale, I have been involved with a project where a landowner purchased a lot and lived on it peacefully for 20 years with no conflict and everything was fine until she sold and the new owner went to try to get a permit to build something (in this case a retention pond for ag irrigation) then all hell broke loose...

Yesterday we surveyed one of the resultant tracts from this case. The owner informed me that he purchased the 200 acres (160 parcel and 40 parcel) in 2002 and did not receive a grant deed until 2015 due to the lawsuit and failure to recognize the subdivision. The situation caused him a great deal of stress.

Despite repeated attempts, he was unable to acquire building permits for either parcel. He built anyway. We noted a large ag pond, 70000 gallon water tank, 4000 square foot barn, house foundation, 20 acres of vineyard and three septic systems. He is meeting with his county supervisor on Monday to discuss resolution. I presume from the factors in the article above that the county has not collected property taxes on the land or any improvements for the last 15 years.

Former county Planning Department employee who had a pay to play scheme. Many illegal parcels created by Certificates of Compliance for parcels that did not qualify that required owners to go back and file subdivision maps for the deed created parcels.
